Frequently Asked Questions
SEO is an acronym that stands for "Search Engine Optimisation."
It is the practice of optimizing your content to make it Google and search engines friendly.
SEO is a method used to rank better on search engines. It is part of a webmarketing strategy to make your website more visible on the web.
A good SEO strategy can drive a lot of organic traffic to your website and thereby increase your conversions.
Organic traffic is earned rather than paid for. An efficient SEO optimisation mission includes a few hundred of "must do" points in order to be successful. It also requires a lot of time and resources.
Over time, search engines and their algorithms have improved and are able to better identify the intent of millions of search queries. That, in turn, makes choosing the right keywords to drive traffic even more important and... difficult.
Unfortunately, it's not that easy...
Ranking Brain (Google's algorithm, for example) will analyze the source of a certain traffic spike before pushing your website up in the rankings.
Of course, 10 000 users coming from a Facebook advertisement won't have the same impact than 10 000 users coming organically because they have decided voluntarily to click on your link.
There are two different factors at play. Search engine algorithms have become more and more advanced with the ultimate goal of satisfying users by offering them the most relevant search results to their queries. For example, an ice cream shop should normally not be able to rank for keywords related to a locksmith activity.
15 years ago, you would have been able to cheat the system by using the keyword you want to rank on several hundred times on the same page. Today, things have changed and a lot more parameters have been included to achieve a better rank. Furthermore, spamming your website nowadays would most likely do more harm than good.
First off: there is no perfect way of doing SEO. Only Google's algorithm knows which criteria determine how well a page ranks. However, some "best practices" have been discovered and are more or less well-known. Backlinko created a very informative list of the Top 200 ranking factors.
SEM (Search Engine Marketing) is the marketing technique used to optimize your rankings on search engines. Within this webmarketing methodology, there are two families:
- - SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)
- - SEA (Search Engine Advertisement)
SEO promotes organic search to increase traffic while SEA uses marketing campaigns (e.g. Google Ads) to push the defined website up in the rankings.
